“Behind the Scenes”
In previous posts, I have talked about Ray Ramano, also known as Ray Barone, his role in “Everybody loves Raymond.” Now I will tell you a little something about the producer of the show, Philip Rosenthal.
Rosenthal wrote as a media columnist for the Chicago Tribune at the age of seventeen. From there, he became a regular freelancer with the Waukegan News-Sun while in high school. Philip Rosenthal was born in Queens, New York and was raised in Rockland, New York. He went to the University of Hofstra in Long Island. In 2002, he won the “Writers Guild Award” for “Excellence in Television Writing” for his script “Italy.”
Rosenthal and Ramano came together to write and produce the sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” The sitcom started in 1996 and continued till 2005. While all of this was going on, Philip Rosenthal wrote a book, “Your Lucky, Your Funny: How Life becomes a Sitcom.” This book talks about how the sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” was created. His book was released in 2006.
Philip Rosenthal tours and stars in a very funny stage show called “Inside the Writers Room.” This show features anecdotes and members of the shows writing staff and behind-the-stories about the history of the show.
Philip Rosenthal based the comedy of “Everybody Loves Raymond” on his own life experiences as a child growing up in New York. When asked the question, “What are the similarities of a Jewish families and Italian families?” Rosenthal responded, “All Italian and Jewish families seem to be exactly the same to me. All problems are solved with food, and the mother never leaves you alone. To me this was the source of great humor-the matriarchal.”
I am from an Italian family so I can relate to how the in-laws are so critical. My grandmother on my dad’s side of the family is the typical Italian woman. We would go to their house for Sunday night dinners, big Italian meals, lots of desserts and yelling (very loud talking). My grandparents have four boys. They are all mommas boys much like Raymond and Robert on “Everybody loves Raymond.” I can’t leave out the plastic slip covers and everything has a place, even grandpop. I understand that the Jewish families are similar. I don’t have anything to relate it to, so feel free to add a short story in my comments.

What is Writing?
What is Writing?
Writing is a word that can be used in many different ways. I asked my nine year old daughter, “what she thinks writing is?” she replied, “it’s something you do with a pen and paper.” Well at that point I knew I needed to find out another way to help me with saying what I think writing is.
Writing is about many things. It can be when you just jot things down on whatever is there to write on. Then there is writing when you sit and gather your thoughts together and write about something or someone, an experience am suppose to be answering that may reflect your outlook on life or you can even write a fictional story.
Good writing is learned. We all know how to write but we don’t know how to write “good.” You need to plan your writing by finding ways to organize your work. There are many ways to do this, one is outlining (putting your thoughts in an organized manner). Another way is looping, looping is when you write what you topic is about and then go over and over it until you writing is in an organized fashion. Then there is bubbling, which I now do not suggest you use. I had to use the looping stradegy to finish this paper. After all of that you need to read and reread your paper, to look for grammar, spelling and to make sure it makes sense. Finally rewrite your paper and have someone read it aloud to you, this will help you with hearing it to make any final adjustments. I am not to sure what you are asking of this ending but I do consider Robert Frost good writing.
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claim,Because it was grassy and wanted wear;Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same,And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back.I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference

"Happy Anniversary Baby"
“Happy Anniversary”
“Happy Anniversary baby the years are rushing by us
You’re more beautiful today then when we walked down the isle
And I’m no good at this but what I’m trying to say is
Having you stand beside me has make my life worth wild.”
This is the first verse of one of my favorite songs my husband and I dance to every year on our anniversary. This song is written and sang by John Micheal Montgomery. I will always remember song it is so true. When he says, “the years are rushing by” how fast they begin to slip away. When Richard sings this song to me it makes me wonder, how did I get so lucky? Well then again, how did he get so lucky? Although I will say it was not luck but fate.
“One true friend is what you’ve always been to me
One true friend is what I always want to be
To have someone to love you and that’s true happiness
May you live to be a hundred, may I live one day less.”
The chorus is so awesome! I would not want to live one day without him. We are best friends and will always be. We can’t live without each other, I guess because we depend on one another. If I’m doing something it’s as if he knows what it is, he will do whatever else needs to be done. In others words we “complete each other” (so sappy).
I want to tell you something about how I met my husband. I was thirteen and he was seventeen, I was his sister’s best friend. Oh yeah, he was my brothers best friend. We started sneaking around to see one another. We had code names when we called each other, I was Lisa. We have been together ever since except for when I turned eighteen. I’ve had enough of this one man stuff. It wasn’t till I turned twenty-one that we got back together. I had three years of sowing my oats and maybe sowed some others.
Now here we are twenty-five years later still going strong and still in love. We have only been married for thirteen years. I wouldn’t change anything about it.
If you ever get the chance to listen to John Micheal Montgomery, this is just one of many of his awesome songs. So now every year on our anniversary we make sure we find time to dance to this song.
To my dearest husband,
“You never stopped believing in us and I know I’m one of the lucky ones.”

"Defending my World"
In my previous blog I spoke about how the show, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, relates to my family. Now I will tell you what others think of the sitcom. I will also tell you why or why not this is a good sitcom.
Reviews from Common Sense Media state that there is too much “Focus on adult relationships… including (in) frequency of sex…
They also say, “Characters are affectionate but also frequently fight and express resentment.”
I say, I must agree with Common Sense Media on the fact that there is a lack of sex. Which anyone who is married knows that this is what happens. It’s not a bad thing it’s just that we become so comfortable with ourselves and life style.
Now, as far as “frequent fighting and expression of resentment”, it is very true how we all fight with our families. We tend to say things that hurt others, but it is always out of love.
Betsy Wallace says, “Is it Any Good.”
She speaks blunt and gets to the point. She says, “The cast is stellar and plotlines shed light on universal human insecurities, such as, doubting that your spouse still finds you attractive as you grow older.”
I agree, we all worry about what we will look like and if our spouses will still be attracted to us.
Here are some views from “Television Heaven.”
There are many people who love this surrealistic family comedy–and others who think it’s annoying and overly loud. The fans outweigh the critics: 'Everybody Loves Raymond' succeeded by mixing the long-standard formula of battling spouses, meddling in-laws and quirky co-stars into a satisfying blend that was familiar on the surface, yet had more than a kernel of truth about family ... “
Well, I will say that I am one of the fans who love it. Yes, Raymond has a whiney voice but it so perfect with the in which he plays. “Battling spouses and meddling in-laws,” it is nice that we can pick our spouses but we can’t pick our in-laws. This is one of those times I would say,” Welcome to my World.”
Entertainment Weekly will sum it up by stating…
Raymond is the rarest of sitcoms -- one with a genuinely original point of view.

"Welcome to my World"
Raymond, Raymond, Raymond. Who is Raymond? Raymond is a comedian who has logical humor. He also has a show called “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Ray is Italian with typical Italian parents. He is a “mamma’s boy” and what "Ray wants, Ray gets." Rays mom, Marie Burone, has this obsurb idea that Ray does nothing wrong.
Here is one of my all time favorites is the Mother-in-Law. I love my mother-in-law. She doesn’t come over to our house like Marie, does to Deborah, but she is always knows whats going on. She enjoys drama. Everything to her is a tragedy. From something as small as, “do my shoes match my outfit” to “Oh my! What if the puppies are born and I am at work!”
My husband doesn’t play golf, but he does play “WOW”, “World of Warcraft.” He will sit for hours playing the game and not think about his surroundings. This is one of the situations I have with my mother-in-law. When it comes to her son everything is okay for instance, the addiction my husband has with “WOW” is okay because he is not in the bars out drinking. Now again, here comes that word “Idiot”. Then I say, “Ruth he pays no attention to his family” but it’s okay as long as he is not in the bars. This reminds of Marie as long as her son is happy everything is fine. God forbid we upset her son.
Now that is all said and done my show is over. I must leave you with this tid-bit of information. My husband is now tries to be more helpful, since I am in school. Though, I must say that “WOW” is still priority to him. Well, I am still doing the laundry, washing the dishes, some cooking and working two jobs. I also make sure the girls are doing homework, getting to school on time and whatever else needs to be done. This is my favorite saying and all the reasons above,“Welcome to my World!”
Deborah, Rays wife, likes to call Ray an "Idiot" when he does dumb stuff. We have a saying in our house about things we can’t find. It started when Richard, my husband, opens the refrigerator to get out the sour cream. Well, of course he could not find it. So, naturally I get up, go to the refrigerator, move some things out of the way and hand it to him. Then we started saying, “Move something Richard!” That is something that occurs regularly in our house. So now, even if my girls are looking for something and can’t find it, one of us will shout out “Move something Richard!” It can sometimes also follow that with the word “Idiot”.
